This track exists in two formats now. The upbeat version on the Drum Machine Sessions 1 EP was crafted to fit the vibe of that EP, but this acoustic version is how it was meant to exist.
This song is about how even the mundane activities in life are made worse when injected with loneliness, and sometimes we just need someone to cook for.
lyrics
(verse 1)
The pantry's stuffed from the top to the floor,
The fridge has food for two or more,
If you'd just ask me what's for dinner.
The menu's the same pretty much every day,
And half the food gets thrown away,
Guilt piled high, that I might be a sinner.
(chorus)
But what I wouldn't give to cook for you,
It's far more pleasant when I cook for two,
And where I once had houseguests, now I don't have none,
So I guess,
I'll just cook for one.
(verse 2)
The plants don't grow 'cause there ain't no sun,
The juice goes bad 'cause I just drink rum,
The greens go brown, I should have used them yesterday.
The bread's expired and the milk has turned,
And all the meat's been freezer burned,
But I buy so much, so I could use it someday.
(chorus x2)
But what I wouldn't give to cook for you,
It's far more pleasant when I cook for two,
And where I once had houseguests, now I don't have none,
So I guess,
I'll just cook for one.
